Wayne Eskridge, who lives in Idaho, began his liver disease diagnosis journey in 2010, and was formally diagnosed with cirrhosis in 2015. He describes a surprising diet recommendation from his hepatologist that changed his approach to managing metabolic-associated steatohepatitis.

One of the things that I remember so distinctly about my conversation with my hepatologist is that he prescribed that I have a significant amount of extra virgin olive oil every day. And it was important, as he explained it, that we manage the energy content of my meals.

And one of the best ways to do that, and one of the best energy sources for the liver, was actually olive oil.

That led, of course, to, how do you incorporate that in your life? And how do you manage diet?

So, it was that information that for me allowed me to be a successful patient. Over the next year and a half, I actually lost 30% of my weight. That actually largely didn’t cure my liver, but it made it to a point that I can live a normal life without having to deal with the problems of liver disease.
